WHO NEW?! Art Crawl had a successful first launch in April 2014. We hoped for at least 75 people but hundreds turned out for an evening of visual art, music and food. The feedback was incredible, people were even asking for one art crawl per month. Not wanting to burn out the City of Barrie on art crawls, it was decided to keep it to 2-3 per year.
On Saturday, September 13th between the hours of 7pm to 11pm – we will be hosting our second art crawl. With 13 downtown venues involved, we will once again be offering a night of new visual art works, music and even performance art. The featured exhibit will be the kicker – local artist Niall Donaghy will be exhibiting his “Torqued DC-3” sculpture right in Memorial Square. The piece is breathtaking to look at in a gallery, so, I’m excited to see how it will perform in this open outdoor space.
Another exciting part about this crawl is that many non-art related downtown businesses have gotten on board and will be offering pop up shows that won’t be on the map. If the weather holds, it will be an exciting night for our downtown core.
